Clinical trials are scientific studies conducted to find ways to prevent, screen for, diagnose and treat disease. It is one of the final stages of a long and careful research and development process. There are different types of clinical trials, including treatment trials, prevention trials, diagnostic trials and quality-of-life trials.

Are Clinical Trials Safe?

Clinical trials do have risks of side effects. However, all clinical trials follow strict, scientific standards which protect patients and help produce reliable clinical trial results. Every clinical trial in the United States must be approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Institutional Review Board (IRB). According to the Office for Human Research Protections, here are some questions to ask if you are considering joining a clinical trial:

• What is the purpose of the research?
• Is the trial FDA and IRB approved?
• What will be done to me as part of the research?
• How will I benefit from the research?
• Could the research hurt me?
• What will the researcher do with my information?
• Will the research cost me anything?
• Who will be liable if there is a complication?
• How long will the study last?
• What happens if I decide to leave the study early?
• Who should I talk to if I have a question about the research?

• We perform outpatient trials only.
• We participate in clinical trials and offer medical monitoring and evaluation related only to any given trial and its results. We are not a treatment clinic.
• We do overbook our studies to ensure that our client-driven panelist quota will be met even if cancellations occur. We offer compensation for overbooking according to our policy.
• You must be qualified to participate in a clinical trial. Completing the panelist registration form and an informed consent form does not guarantee your participation in a trial.
• If you would like to be compensated for your participation in a trial, you must inform us of your social security number at the time of your participation. We issue checks on a 1099basis.
